Once considered a fringe movement, veganism is now firmly in the mainstream. Inspired by environmental and ethical concerns, people from all walks of life are adopting a Vegan diet.

From activists to celebrities, everyone is changing their way of life and incorporating more vegan recipes into their diet.


Many are passionate animal lovers and stated that as the primary reason for giving up consuming non-vegetarian food. Here is the list of celebrities who chose the path to compassion: 


1. Ariana Grande

This famous American actress and singer have been a renowned vegan and animal activist. She left her non-vegetarian diet in 2013, and since then, she did not look back. In an interview, she said, "I love animals more than I love most people, not kidding."


2. Virat Kohli

The nation's most prominent sports star has chosen the path of a plant-based diet. Virat Kohli went through a significant change in his fitness diet last October and admitted a notable improvement in his performance.

Both Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli recently invested in a homegrown plant-based meat brand Blue Tribe.


3. Lizzo

The Grammy winner began her journey as a vegan in 2020. She describes her diet as health and joy. In one of her vegan Tik-Tok, she writes, "As a new vegan, I'm enjoying exploring flavours from plants and plant-based proteins! Every journey is personal and deserves to be celebrated."



4. Alia Bhatt

This young actress, known for various notable roles in her career, chose the path of veganism in 2015. The recent intimate wedding of b-town couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt also had 25 different vegan and vegetarian food options.



5. Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish was only 12 years old when she went vegan from her vegetarian diet. In a YouTube series, "Montreality", she quote," Becoming vegan wasn't like a huge deal for me because the meat was never a thing in my life. It wasn't like I had something to miss".



6. Serena Williams

This international tennis champion follows a primarily vegan diet. During the off-season, the tennis titan relaxes her diet at times to include protein and cheat day favourites, but Serena sticks to a plant-based diet while training and competing.

 

7. Aamir Khan

Aamir used to be an avid non-vegetarian food lover, but the actor left his love for meat in 2015. He decided after his wife showed him a video about the common diseases caused by consuming animal products and how a vegan diet can prevent them.

 

8. Sia

The world-famous Australian singer Sia disclosed that she was vegan in a tweet in 2014 when a vegan restaurant owner invited her to come and visit his restaurant.

After following a vegetarian diet for many years prior, the singer has joined forces with animal rights organization PETA in a campaign to help end animal homelessness.

 

9. Tobey Maguire

The Spiderman star Tobey has been a vegan since 2009. 

While filming The Great Gatsby, Tobey returned a hire car with leather seats and requested one with a cruelty-free interior.

Actress Natalie Portman also claims that Maguire inspired her to go vegan after starring in the movie Brothers together.

 

10. Kangana Ranaut

The actress was a hardcore non-vegetarian but switched to vegetarianism. After realizing dairy products were causing her health issues, she became a dietary vegan.

Turning to a vegan diet, she saw a huge difference in her well-being. Kangana says she hopes to transition into an ethical vegan soon.

 

11. Sonam Kapoor

The actress, Sonam Kapoor, has adopted a plant-based lifestyle. Sonam does not leave any chance to promote veganism, from her vegan diet plan and fashion to her clothing line.

According to multiple interviews, she was a vegetarian for several years before adopting veganism and giving up on milk and other dairy products.

 

12. Jacqueline Fernandez

 Bollywood's most enthusiastic animal lover, Jacqueline Fernandez, even won the title – ''Woman of The Year, 2014'' by PETA. She has been vocal about animal cruelty and has been following a plant-based diet for several years.

She also started a restaurant in Mumbai to serve people healthy vegan food.

 

13. Riteish Deshmukh and 14. Genelia Deshmukh

Genelia and her husband Riteish Deshmukh had decided to turn vegan, and a brief stay in the U.S. exposed them to plant-based meat substitutes. They felt that the products tasted, felt, and smelled like real meat, enabling them to overcome non-vegetarianism easily. 

The couple started their own Plant-based company, Imagine meat, last year.

 

15. John Abraham

Like many other stars, John Abraham chose to change his lifestyle in favour of animal rights and his affection for them. He firmly believes that meat is not essential to building muscle, and he has clearly proved that to others.

He starred in a 'Mercy for Animals' Ad campaign, encouraging people to stop animal cruelty.



There are several celebrities and activists who chose to go on a vegan diet. Vegans once faced many problems finding a platform to share their views, but with the constant sharing of vegan diet recipes and plans on social media platforms, millions of fans and followers are joining these celebrities in the good revolution like never before.
